THE DON FLOWS HOME TO THE SEA continues the story begun in AND QUIET FLOWS THE DON. It begins with the period immediately after the Russian Revolution of 1917 and carries on through the end of the civil war in 1921. It follows the fortunes of a group of Cossacks and their women--torn between the intense individualism of their Cossack background and the socialism of the new society.
Russia's most popular writer, Mikhail Sholokhov was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1965.
