The Peacekeepers: Books 4-6
(2011)(A book in the Peacekeepers series)
An omnibus of novels by Ricky Sides
Book 4 review:
This book kept me up way past my bed time. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I find I enjoy each subsequent book in this series more than the one that preceeded it. The characters continue to grow and the excitement doesn't end. It was a great read. Thanks.
Book 5 review:
The Peacekeeper series takes an eerie turn with this latest installment. It begins with a detachment of over 30 peacekeepers being assaulted by their deadliest opponents to date, who seem to have supernatural powers! Are they vampires? Are their animal assistants werewolves? The answers to these lead the peacekeepers to discover a huge cult that have been secretly stealing and killing citizens, for their blood, naturally.
The action is great, and the plot moves steadily forward with constant challenges. It was nice to see the heroes in real danger, and the story takes some unusual twists. It culminates in one of the best action hand-to-hand fight sequences yet.
This is definitely the best novel in the series, and is the type of book that would make a terrific movie.
Book 6 review:
I've read the first five books in this series and I've loved every one. Ricky Sides has created a post-apocalyptic world peopled with characters who have become my good friends. As someone mentioned in another review, one of the major characters is killed in this book; I cried. I could feel the pain of those left behind.
There are parts of these books concerning the mechanics and theories that cause the Peacekeeper fleet to fly, etc, that don't interest me, but I sort of skim over them to get back to the story. I don't need to know the reasoning behind the workings; I accept it without question. It's a novel, not real life!
I'll continue to buy and read everything that Ricky Sides publishes. I love his two-part Claws "series" (Claws, and book 2,Claws 2. After the Apocalypse.) and I love the Peacekeeper books.
Book 4: A boat loaded with the sick and the dead washed ashore. A passenger made it to a small city and hitched a ride to New Orleans. Stopping at every small town they gathered food for the people of the city. The truck driver had delivered a plague carrier into the city. The peacekeepers worked to stop the spread of the contagion and soon learned the source of the plague.
Book 5: A group of peacekeepers had been slaughtered. The crew of the Peacekeeper race to the scene to investigate. When they arrive, they learn that a cult had slaughtered the forty peacekeepers. The council declared war on the cult, knowing that if they would dare to attack a large heavily armed party of peacekeepers then no one was safe. What followed was a descent into madness and not all would emerge.
Book 6: In the Guadalupe Mountains of Texas, the peacekeepers discover the base for Phoenix Rising, a secret government project that planned to utilize the work of the development team who'd designed the Peacekeeper. Inside that citadel, they discovered an aircraft unlike any other they had ever seen. Calling on all of their resources, the peacekeepers race to prevent a nuclear strike on American soil.
Genre: Science Fiction
