As soon as I met Miss Rose Moore, an American orphan in the careless and unwanted custody of her uncles, who were also my neighbours in the estate in Cumbria, I realized she was a special young woman.
I immediately persuaded her guardians to allow her to live with me as my companion, after all, an elderly lady rejuvenates in the company of the young!
They never loved her, and they were more than happy to get rid of her.
However, for me, it was a stroke of luck because the more I got to know her, the more I became convinced that she would be the right woman for my rake grandson, Lucius Searle, the future Viscount of Searle.
I have always known that only a tenacious, independent, and strong-willed woman could stand up to him.
If she also happens to be as beautiful as a winter morning...
It should be easy to make them fall in love with each other; they just need to become acquainted with one another.
Hence, I deliberately postponed my summons for Lucius until nearly December, so that he may collect me from the northern abode and accompany me in celebrating the Yuletide festivities with our kinfolk.
Soon, Lucius will arrive, and at that point, I will see some interesting developments. I can only hope that a snowstorm might aid my Machiavellian plan.
