Eight years ago, Sam Phillips' heart stopped working. Close to death, his parents brought him to Dreams Come True Amusement Park. At Dreams Come True, all the young guests are terminally ill. The amusement park has only one MO: to make sure everyone's days are filled with happiness and love.

Eight years and one heart transplant later, Sam works summers at Dreams Come True. He's made friends with the other park workers--boys and girls just like him who survived the odds. He even has a boyfriend, Yoel Casado, a fun-loving, goofy guy with a knack for making the impossible happen. Which is great for Sam, because Sam wants the impossible this summer. Sam wants to find out who gave him his heart.

With hospital records sealed, and his own parents clueless, the task is daunting. But Sam is unwilling to back down. If Sam can figure out who his heart donor was--the things they enjoyed doing, the people they loved--Sam can keep a piece of them alive. It's the least he can do for the person who gave him his life.

Within weeks, Yoel has a list of four prospective heart donors. Their search brings them across Southern California. But the hospital records being sealed can only mean one thing: His donor's family doesn't want to meet him.

Sam doesn't want to reopen old wounds. Sam's going to have to get creative this summer, and get close to these families without telling them who he is. Along the way, Sam realizes the impossible: all four of their children have saved his life in some way.
