‘Marta, you know I don’t have a phone,’ I laugh breathily, wondering why she was so concerned. I am an adult after all. ‘Besides, Benni left you a note…oh, God, sorry, this is-‘
‘I know who he is,’ she whispers inside of my ear, ‘just say goodbye and come inside, nice and slow, Ella.’
‘Wha-?’ I begin but Benni pulls me closer into his side and places a kiss on my lips. It becomes so intense, I feel my cheeks burning under Marta’s stare.
‘Senorita Manzo,’ Benni eventually says to her, and it somehow sounds threatening, ‘I apologise for monopolising Ella’s time, she is quite enchanting.’
‘Th-that’s ok,’ Marta gasps. The woman has put men twice her size in their place so to see her looking so pale-stricken and visually frightened, has put me on edge. ‘Thank you for taking care of her, she’s in a particularly vulnerable place right now.’
‘She is here, you know?’ I laugh, then turn to kiss Benni on the cheek goodbye. ‘Thank you Benni, it was nice staying at your beautiful estate.’
I turn to move away but his hand on my wrist stops me in my tracks, and I notice the worried-looking expression on Marta’s face. I also spot Arlo hovering by the window looking just as fearful as Marta. Who the hell is Benni?
