Proactive Contrition

(2012)
A Meta-Memoir
A non fiction book by

A 100,000 word descent into the mind of Bram Stoker Award nominee Wayne Allen Sallee, his meta-memoir examines Wayne's life as a survivor of cerebral palsy as well as a hit-and-run crash. "I confess to my sins in every single line before I commit them to the printed page... At some point I realized I just wanted to keep the story as real as possible, that I am always in pain and I type in private."

PRAISE FOR WAYNE ALLEN SALLEE

"Chicago has its share of treasures - deep dish, the Bean, Kingston's blues, and Wayne Allen Sallee. Toiling in the stubborn vineyard of short fiction for most of his career, Sallee reaches a sort of a literary apogee with his brilliant and brutal horror novella "For You, The Living." Ostensibly a plague tale, told in classic Lovecraftian diary form, Sallee's yarn manages to deftly mingle the deeply personal with the gruesomely Grand Guignol. Riveting, ghastly, hilarious, creepy, and unforgettably Wayne-like, "For You, the Living" is at once a wholly original take on the zombie apocalypse genre while at the same time a heart-wrenching love story. This one will haunt you forever, folks. Highest recommendation!" - Jay Bonansinga, co-author of THE WALKING DEAD

"Wayne Allen Sallee writes with a cattle prod and a coal chisel; he sparks your nerves and scrapes your soul." - Joe R. Lansdale

"Wayne Allen Sallee is without question one of the most fascinating people you will ever meet. How many people have been hit by a car and lived to tell about it? How many have persevered against a debilitating disease and still managed to publish fiction for almost thirty years. The fact that WAyne is still here despite all the lumps life thrown in his path never ceases to amaze." - Martel Sardina, Dark Scribe

"Chicago and its decaying citizens have never looked more diseased. And I have never seen a book containing so lavish and impressive a portfolio of the grotesque." - Ed Bryant in Locus

"Vintage Wayne Allen Sallee is a fusion of the gritty and the surreal, of compassion and paranoia. A trip to this Wayne's World is to know what a growing cult audience has known for years; he's a singularly unique talent that crawl under your skin and stays." - Brian Hodge, author of MAD DOGS, WILD HORSE, and NIGHTLIFE.

"Sallee writes self-help books for the generation of those who will not experience the American Dream." - Mike G. Ward

"Sallee is not another King/Barker/Jason/Freddie clone. He is an original writer, and his pen is dipped in pain. Sallee doesn't write safe, predictable horror. He has a certain twisted, subtle humor. Jack the Ripper with a grin." - Karl Edward Wagner

"Definitely not one-fisted material" - The Dayton Voice

"Sallee's specialty is street-level terror." - Paul Sammon
