Texas is a big state, but it isn’t big enough to hide Ella Wright’s past. When her two-year-old son’s father, Alaster Mauk, finds her, Ella leaves for Hawk’s Roost, Montana, a small town buried so deep in the rugged mountains, Alaster will never find her. She introduces herself to Bertha Simms, owner of the boardinghouse, who offers her a room for rent.
Bertha only rents to women and she is a known matchmaker, with considerable success matching local men with her boarders. After a chance meeting between Charlie Evers, Livery owner and Ella, Bertha sees the attraction and sets out to convince the two they were meant for each other.
As Ella is drawn closer to Charlie, she knows she must tell him the truth about her son, and that she’s been living a lie. Little does she know that Alaster Mauk was murdered the same night she left Texas. And the law is looking for her.
