A novel by Richard Brightfield
School Library Journal
ea. vol: illus. by David Perry. maps. (Escape from Tenopia Series). Bantam. $2.50. LC number unavailable. Gr 7 Up This series is a kind of Choose-Your-Own serial. While the three books can be read independently, they form a chronicle of your attempt to escape after crash-landing on ''one of the most forbidding planets in the galaxy.'' To return to Earth, you must make your way to the galactic patrol station. First, you have to get off Tenopia Island , home of the evil crogocides. Then you become Trapped in the Sea Kingdom, where you are fitted with gills and battle weird monsters before reaching the main continent. There is Terror on Kabran, however, and you must avoid space pirates and soldiers to finally arrive at the patrol station. Even then, the adventure isn't over. The series promises more to come. There is only one way out of each of these books, and you can recycle endlessly until you make the right choices. You can consult maps of the immediate area via your pocket map computer to help choose your road. This series demands a great deal of involvement and time, and the repetition can become frustrating, but it's a different twist for the adventurous reader.
