Lydia grew up with her parents on a tree-shaded street in a quiet neighborhood. Their Queen Anne-style house provided space for missionaries on leave. Life was idyllic, mostly. There was one time when a boy and his missionary parents stayed at their house and his mom or dad would make him go outside with her to play. Every bug or worm she showed him scared him to the point of running to the house crying. Lydia had wondered what was wrong with him.

Two years ago, it seemed God was no longer interested in her and her family. Her beloved father passed away unexpectedly, then her mother fell ill for a year. They’d been able to keep the house, but in time they’d run out of the funds necessary to live there. Mama wanted to take in a boarder, but the doctor said it would be too strenuous, so Lydia signed up for teacher’s college. She came home and found her mother cleaning the guest room. The boy who had come with his parents ten years ago needed a place to recover from malaria. Now she’d have to put off college to care for him.

Adam finds himself delivered to the home where his parents arranged for him to recover, and to his horror, all he can see is the skinny girl with red braids who tormented him when the family had stayed there years ago. What were his parents thinking?
Will Lydia open her heart to God’s healing? Can Adam find it in his heart to forgive Lydia? Will they both seek God’s plan for their lives?
