RENEGADE MAGIC SERIAL
In the high desert pueblo, the old beliefs have never died. And when witchcraft can be the only explanation for murder, Luke, Tom and Rico, former renegades, must step up to save their people and the women they love.
Part 2: Tom
Convinced unjust treatment under the law is a greater danger to his pueblo than anything supernatural, Tom Lahi refuses to believe in rituals and magic. But only when he learns to embrace the power of his heritage can he truly help his people and find love.
RENEGADE MAGIC... Luke... Tom... Rico... Each of these exciting stories ends with an HEA for the hero and heroine. But only the full set will finally get to the bottom of the murder mystery. Be sure to read them all!
Excerpt:
A strange feeling niggled at the back of Tom Lahi's neck. As if he'd met this woman before. Another time. Another place. Hell, maybe another life.
"Tom?" The pixie breezed past Gonzales, ignoring the tribal cop's leer, and marched straight for Tom.
"Are you representing my prisoner?" She spoke in tones as short and businesslike as her haircut. But just as her boyish clothing and hair highlighted her femininity, her abrupt manner of speaking made her voice seem even more rich and womanly.
The kind of voice made to whisper dirty words in the dark of night.
"That's right." Tom knew this woman... he knew her... .
She stepped closer to the station entrance. The light fully illuminated her face, her cute little turned-up nose, her big blue eyes.
Sure enough. "Jessie Gardner?"
A smile curved her lips and she was that girl again, the girl who'd followed him around like a starstruck fan back in the days he'd worked at Sandoval Fresh Foods, the days before Luke's arrest had changed his life for good.
Jessie's attentions back in those days had made him feel important, as though he mattered more than any nineteen-year-old pueblo boy with a bad job had a right. Thinking of it, thinking of her, he couldn't help but smile. "You're with the FBI? I can't believe it."
The smile dropped from her lips and wariness shuttered her eyes. "I'm here to take the prisoner into federal custody. Where is he?"
"Inside. I was about to confer with him." He pushed the door open and stepped into the station, leaving Jessie Gardner waiting in the doorway.
He spotted his client in the single holding cell right away. But unlike most prisoners relieved to see their lawyer arrive, the man didn't race to the cell door. Instead he stood unmoving, back near the window, in the shadows.
"Hello? I'm Tom Lahi. Your lawyer. You called me to represent you." Tom stepped closer, willing his eyes to adjust, his mind to absorb the image in front of him.
The man in the cell was his client, all right. But he wasn't standing. He dangled a few inches off the floor, a leather belt suspending him from the neck.
And Tom knew for a certainty this couldn't be suicide.
