Sometimes, pain can bind two souls unlike anything else.

But that connection is the last thing I wanted.

As the oldest of three boys, it's my job to take care of my family. Part of that includes making sure my mom is okay after my father's sudden passing. He was a firefighter, a chief to be exact. After our military careers, my brothers and I followed in his footsteps. Staying in our hometown after he died just wasn't an option, though.

Not for us and not for our mom.

So, three men in their thirties packed up and moved with our mom over seven hundred miles to Nashville, Tennessee. We're new at the Station 47 Firehouse. Our introduction to the city and our coworkers isn't normal, though. As we head into town a multi-car pile-up with serious injuries and several fatalities launches us into our new roles.

It's during that accident I meet Constance Grant.

Thirty-six, beautiful, witty, smart . . . she's everything a guy could ever dream of.

But when it comes to women, my dreams always turn into nightmares and despite my instant connection to her, I don't want to let myself catch feelings. Too bad fate has other plans.

Constance knows pain but she's made a life of helping others with their own instead of focusing on hers. That makes me want her even more.

The moment we fall into each other, though, the demons from her past resurface and threaten to ruin the beautiful woman I've fallen in love with, and I'll do anything to save her . . .

Not just from her past but from her own pain, too.
