(1928)
A novel by

1928. Train was the former assistant district attorney in New York City. His interactions with clients, together with his experiences in the courtroom, provided the material for the more than 250 short stories and novels he would write during his lifetime. The book begins: The train was nearly an hour late and the bouquet of roses he had bought for her had already begun to wilt a little. He shifted them from one hand to the other, peering for the twentieth time down the track, but the shining rails prolonged themselves into an indefinite shimmering vacancy.
