Born in Sweden to Indian and Swedish parents, Gita Trelease has lived in New York, Paris, and a tiny town in central Italy, though she's spent much of her life in New England. As a girl, she rode horses and typed absurd poems on her uncle's Olivetti Lettera 22.
She attended Yale College and New York University, where she earned a PhD focusing on Victorian literature and imperialism. At Princeton, she taught classes on fairy tales and monsters.
Along with her husband, son, and Maine Coon cat, Gita divides her time between a spooky Massachusetts village and the wild coast of Maine. In each place, there are way too many books.

Gita Trelease recommends
Edgewood (2022)
Kristen Ciccarelli
"Compelling and atmospheric, Edgewood is a beautifully woven fantasy in which love isn't always what it seems and even the most heartfelt dreams have a terrible cost. Like the roots that catch and bind in the story's magical forest, Edgewood doesn't let go-it will keep you spellbound until the very end."
A Golden Fury (2020)
Samantha Cohoe
"I fell for this thrilling tale of madness and murder, alchemy and obsession-- and the fiercely determined Theosebeia Hope who will stop at nothing to get her heart's desire. I could not turn the pages fast enough!"
Girl, Serpent, Thorn (2020)
Melissa Bashardoust
"Like a jeweled fairy tale, Girl, Serpent, Thorn glitters with twisty revelations, curses and dangerous transformations, magic and monsters and love?and at its heart, a girl who can kill with a touch. A thrilling, moving story of what it means to come into one’s own power, this book is utterly captivating."
