Hunt for Red Kangaroo Dreaming
(2024)(The ninth book in the Agency of the Ancient Lost & Found series)
A novel by Jane Thornley
A missing godfather, a criminal on the loose, and the Australian Outback sets the stage for one of Phoebes most challenging and thrilling missions. Released from prison, her murderous ex taunts her to play a game on his home turfdo as he says and her godfather Max Baker lives, break the rules and he dies. Can she find the clues to save Max, locate a cache of stolen art, and escape Noels clutches while surviving in a land where even a tree can be deadly?
It begins when a postcard based on an Aboriginal artwork arrives at Phoebes London doorstep leading the team to Sydney, Australia. From there they race to the Daintree Rainforest where matters become both more deadly and complicated as a series of strange supposedly natural events and circumstances threaten the team's health and sanity.
When Phoebe finally encounters the Red Kangaroo Dreaming art upon which the postcard is based, she comes face to face with an ancient culture that may hold clues to everything she seeks, all of which leads to the Top End--Australiass remote red center, and Noel's birthplace.
The painting by a long dead Arrente woman opens a world of possibilities, confusing symbols, and the language of color and spirit of a powerful and ancient culture. The odds are pitched against her, but if Phoebe cannot decipher the hidden map in the art, she risks becoming a slave to the man who haunts her past and threatens her future. Yet her path takes unexpected twists as new allies and fierce enemies collide in the desert, leaving Phoebe struggling to find her way.
From the ancient Daintree rainforest to the wild expanses of the MacDonnell Ranges, Phoebe and the Agency of the Ancient Lost and Found are on the hunt for the lost and the missing, the sacred and the profane, with stakes too high to risk losing.
