Private eye Nick Sharman is getting married, and down at his local South London nick they're taking bets on how many days it's going to last. Sharman's wedding day dawns with an emperor-sized hangover and a call from America. His old friend, Chris Kennedy-Sloane, has recommended him to a record company. They have a problem: letters have been arriving from England, from a rock star who wants his royalties. Trouble is, he's been dead for twenty years. Will Sharman investigate? After a wedding that ends up with only a few arrests, Nick and his new wife - and now partner - Dawn, the ex-stripper, start work. And a trail that at first seems non-existent pretty soon becomes labyrinthine - and deadly, as they discover that the sleazy squalor of the seventies has become the malevolent corruption of the nineties.
