Miles Tripp served in RAF Bomber Command during World War II, during which time he flew thirty-seven sorties as a bomber-aimer - a tour of operations detailed in the autobiographical work - The Eighth Passenger.

Having studied law and been admitted as a solicitor, he began writing fiction in his spare time, and his first novel was published in 1952.
