The Life Of Sally Ward
(2023)(Book 121 in the Tales of the Old West series)
A novel by Paul L Thompson
A brand new Shorty Thompson adventure from Paul L. Thompson!
Sally Ward was twenty-two years old with two small children. Lloyd Jr. the fourth was seven, and Sally Ann only five when husband Lloyd was found shot in the back behind his plow.
Sally strongly wept as Lloyd was her whole world. But knew she had two children to raise and that she would do. With help from grandpa Ward and father-in law Lloyd, Lloyd was placed in a five-foot deep grave on a low grass covered hill.
Several mornings later after the children were fed breakfast, she hitched the horses to the plow and took up where Lloyd had left off, plowing that field.
Ten days later six men rode up, with Harlon asking about Lloyd. She pointed to the hill top. With hat in hand one of the men said, “Sorry for your loss, Ma’am. I guess you’ll be wanting to sell the place, with no husband to carry on. Be too hard for a young woman to take care of ah this place as big as this with everything that’ll need to be done.”
“No, the children and I will pull through, somehow. Lloyd was proud of what we had built here.”
“Four thousand dollars and you walk off.”
“No! Lloyd paid for this land after his grandpa and dad made the down payment as a fifteenth birthday present! It is our home for as long as I live.”
“Life is short Sally, look where Lloyd is now.”
“Get! Don’t you ever set foot on this land again, Harlon! You or your men.”
Genre: Western
