Mister You Was Shot In The Head
(2020)(Book 83 in the Tales of the Old West series)
A novel by Paul L Thompson
Shorty had been trailing the Duran brothers and one friend for a good while and just crossed the Wyoming border. He was riding north by northeast up the Tongue River. Those boys needed to be caught, bad.
They had shot and robbed their own grandmother and grandfather. Both the old folks had lived but at their age it would be awhile before they fully recovered. If not for a half shoe missing from one of the horses, he would have lost this trail as it turned off the stage road at Decker, two miles inside of Wyoming. They looked to be headed up the Tongue River.
Before sunup just as he was breaking camp getting ready to saddle Dunnie, he was slammed in the side of the head by a rifle bullet. When he opened his eyes, though he didn’t know it two days had passed.
He was flat on his back looking up into the face of a small girl. “He woke up Dub! You’d better get over here!”
A boy a few years older walked into view. “Yep he woke up alright. I thought you was a goner, “Mister you was shot in the head. The only reason I didn’t try to pile rocks over you was you kept on breathing and coughed a few times. Me and Sue need to be riding on. Yeah and we eat most of your food, I hope that was alright. If we hadn’t stayed right with you the wolves would have already eat you up.”
Genre: Western
