Summer at The Ginger Cat Cafe
(2020)(The fifth book in the Charnley Acre series)
A Novella by Zara Thorne
It’s the summer season, and Alyson and Greg Meadows, new owners of The Ginger Cat Café, couldn’t be more proud as the customers flock in, eager to sample the delicious food, especially the traditional cream teas.
But Alyson has a secret worry, one she can’t even share with Greg. The question is, how long can she go on putting off the inevitable?
When Rachel Honeyman arrives in Charnley Acre and announces her intention to get married, Alyson offers to host the reception at the café. Having a party to plan will take her mind off her problems, and she can’t wait to start. However, it’s not long before Rachel begins to have doubts. Marcus’s proposal came out of the blue, as the plane touched down at Heathrow. Marriage had been way off the agenda, as far as she was concerned. But they love each other, and what could be nicer than a summer wedding in the Sussex countryside?
Olive Cowstick, baker of the café’s finest cakes and pastries, has weddings on her mind, too. And not just Rachel’s. Horace Penfold, stalwart member of the café’s staff, might seem a cantankerous old misery, but to Olive, he’s her little darlin’ as well as her best friend.
At Olive’s house one evening, Horace is shocked to find a proposal on the menu as well as his favourite gammon and mash dinner. Marrying Olive is out of the question. Isn’t it? Besides, in Horace’s firm opinion, it’s the man who does the asking…
The bunting is up, the cake is made, half the village invited. The Ginger Cat Café is ready to host the party of the summer. But can Alyson find the courage to face her fears before the celebrations begin?
Genre: Romance
