Q: Why do you think the Mac Walker character has become so popular with readers?

A: He represents the kind of guy we'd like to have around when our backs are really against the wall, and for those of us paying attention, we sense that time could be coming sooner rather than later. Mac isn't perfect - far from it. He makes mistakes throughout the series, misses clues he should have noticed earlier, but in the end he does his best to be the kind of person the situation requires. There's a rugged nobility to Mac Walker that seems to appeal to a wide array of military thrillers readers, and I'm certainly very appreciative of that.
