Three Original Ladies & Their Gentlemen is a wonderful trilogy of romance novels:
Rescuing Rosalind: Heroine, Fanny Edwards skates on the edge of propriety, constantly risking her reputation as she wishes to become an actress (specifically to play the role of "Rosalind," in As You Like It). A like-minded sea captain Buckingham Kernow-Smith, Marquis of Deal, alternately encourages her and rescues her from ruin. Bored by post-war London with its petty entertainments, he is smitten by the unconventional Fanny, whom he chooses to call Rosalind. Together they test the limits of social propriety, but he is finally forced to consider protecting her from herself.
Lord Trowbridge's Angel: Fanny's sister, Sophie Edwards, is a shy violinist, who is stronger than she seems. To the surprise of many, Sophie attracts the attention of the Season's most eligible bachelor, Lord Francis St. Oswald, Viscount Trowbridge (aka "Gorgeous Frank") and has a thing or two to teach him. He is leading an aimless, if not dull, life when he is asked to escort Sophie to her first ball. Her innocence is alluring, but when he hears her play her violin for the first time, it touches his soul and he resolves to change to become worthy of "his angel." Easier said, than done!
The Baron and The Bluestocking: Helene Whitcombe is a schoolteacher at Christian Elliott, Baron Shrewsbury's Orphanage for Girls. Though determined to remain unwed, her principles are undermined by the baron himself, despite the fact that they are "at daggers drawn." The baron, though searching for a wife, immediately locks horns with the radical feminist who not only scorns men but intends to live life as a spinster, improving the lot of the poor. Though he considers her beneath him, he is completely unable to resist is attraction to her. As for her principles . . . love changes everything, does it not?
