Raymond van Over is the author and editor of over thirty books with mainstream publishers (Harper&Row, Penguin, New American Library, Macmillan, etc.), including novels and general fiction, true crime, fiction for young adults, folk tales, biography, psychology, and scholarly studies of myths. He has also been a ghostwriter for half a dozen books, including memoirs and general fiction.
For years he was a script-doctor and story analyst for major film studios (Universal, Fox, and Columbia). His screenwriting -- both feature films and documentaries -- included the Academy Award nominated "Portrait of Giselle" and "Tosca," for ABC-TV/Wishupon Productions. His play, "Bruno," won the 2017 Kaplan New Play prize. Next, comes a historical novel on Bruno.
For several years, Raymond van Over taught at New York University and Hofstra University. He has traveled the Globe: Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia, lectured before many audiences and professional societies including MENSA, The New York Psychological Association, and the World Congress of Religions. He has also appeared on numerous television and radio programs, such as The Dick Cavett Show, Straight Talk, PBS-TV Specials, The Barry Farber Show, Margaret Truman's Radio Show, etc.
In addition to a traditional education in the U.S., he has lived and studied in Spain, England, and France. He received a certificate in Ancient History and Early Literature from Wolsey Hall, Oxford, and studied French Civilization and Literature at the University of Paris, Sorbonne.
His varied interests include the Japanese game of GO, flying single engine airplanes, painting, and baroque music.
