Warriors of the Plains

In 1832 three men were the heart and soul of a wooden outpost built along the Arkansas River: From the beginning, William Bent, Ceran St Vrain, and Kit Carson knew they would have to defend their fort with their lives - against storms, Indian marauders, disease, and a region erupting in war. With the Western tribes at battle with each other, and the US Army, and Mexico out to crush a stubborn band of Texan rebels, Bents Fort became a place of refuge, espionage, negotiations, and critical supplies as soldiers, natives, traders and rebels fought their frontier wars. But as Bent and St Vrain tried to extend the read of their trading empire, and Kit Carson became a legend as a fighter and a frontiersman, each man faced a separate destiny steeped in tragedy and loss. And Ben's fort, a citadel on the plains, became a symbol of survival - until its final chapter was written in tears and blood.
