Wise Virgin

(1982)
A novel by

Wilson, author of the giddy, baroque Who Was Oswald Fish? centers his stylish, rather brittle new comic novel on largely unlikable Giles Fox--a blind, atheistic, middle-aged, frustrated scholar/librarian, a misanthrope who (following the sudden death of sexy wife #2 Carol) cares for two things only: his years of work on the transcription of A Tretis of Loue Heuenliche, a medieval tract on virginity; and his own virginal 17-year-old daughter Tibba, who--now that her loathed stepmother is miraculously dead--possessively dotes on her selfish, celibate father.
