Island Bluffs

Carly Mason, NY's top forensic dentist is married to a widower, Gabe Berk, and is trying to start a family. Gabe has a seventeen-year-old, rebellious daughter--Megan--from his first marriage. Having exhausted all of NYC's top fertility experts, Carly and Gabe learn of an eccentric scientist who runs an exclusive clinic near the Jersey Shore. The doctor explains the only way he will help: Carly must agree to carry twins, one biologically hers and another that is not, along with two caveats: she must move near the doctor's clinic in her last trimester and give the surrogate baby up to the doctor at birth. Carly and Gabe's new house is no ordinary house...and Island Bluffs is no ordinary town. They feel eyes spying on them at every turn. Yehuda, Gabe's father and a Holocaust survivor who lives with them, hears strange noises that only he can hear; Megan is attracted to the son of a Nazi sympathizer. And there is the mysterious scavenger ship that plies offshore for buried treasure while, from time to time, we glimpse a lone swimmer lumbering through the waves of Barnegat Bay. Island Bluffs is a present-day town blinded by a pact made long ago that is filled with secrets and horrors all would prefer to remain buried. Now that the Berks have bought this long-forgotten house, keeping secrets buried is no longer an option. When these truths are revealed, they will, by turns, shock and amaze. They will challenge the very fabric of what is right and wrong and what it means to forgive.
