The last play in the Wesker trilogy (Roots,Chicken Soup with Barley).Set in 1946 it shows Dave and Ada Simmonds moving into a house in rural Norfolk without gas,electricity or running water.Aided by Ada's brother Ronnie Kahn and mother Sarah, the couple are constantly having to explain why they feel so alienated from city life.Dave's old army pal Libby arrives they find him cynical and disillusioned.Dave is sacked from his farm job and proceeds with his plan to produce quality hand made furntiture.A period of success follows but by 1959 they are forced to return to London.They find that Ronnie feels more of a sense of failure than they do.
