Tides of Mars has went through a major clean up of the story to fix many of the problem areas. A lot of new content has been added as a result and since the book grew it has been split into two separate books, Ascension - Book I and Conflict - Book II. This is the omnibus version and contains both books.
Ascension - Book I
Ariel Janis was a normal college girl until she attended the reading of a will. She inherited much more than she bargained for as she discovers more and more about her new estate. Not only is she now one of the richest women in the United States, she learns she has inherited the legacy of being a Guardian to a Galactic Empire she's never heard of. Just as she thinks she gets a handle on that, she gets a visit from a very important, very special guest from way out of town.
Conflict - Book II
As Ariel and her friends get ready to start making a difference, the Senate decides to do it for her and declares war on the Empire. Ariel learns more about what it means to be a leader, and the state in which the people of the Empire have been living. She has a hard time dealing with becoming the icon of hope for trillions of people when she is having a hard time just defending her own home. She learns quickly when the republican fleet arrives to kill her and her grandfather, and take over the Empire.
