Autumn 1828. Giles Courtenay, now Viscount Wellswood, is sent back to the Peloponnese to assist the French in ousting the Ottoman Forces in accordance with the Treaty reached, as Ibrahim Pasha was reluctant to leave. With the aid of Piers Tandy, his squadron deals with a fortress which could create disruption between two French Brigades, then assists with the attacking of an Ottoman Castle at Patras, taking another stronghold in the process with a daring and novel attack. A new Flag-officer arrives to take on the role of commanding the Mediterranean Fleet and he returns home, but not for long. In early 1829 he is appointed Flag-officer, Antigua, consequent upon the unfortunate death from fever of his old friend Will Charlton and with the specific aim of finding a certain Jean -Pierre Hudson whom it appeared was stirring up rebellion among the slave population of the various Islands in the West Indies, thereby risking the lucrative trade from the Islands. Courtenay has to deal with finding the elusive man, rescuing plantations from rebellious slaves, and luring the man's largest ship, a fifty-gunner, into a trap. He is finally able to run the quarry to earth.
