(2025)
(Book 18 in the Courtenay series)
A novel by

In 1900 Sir Giles Courtenay arrives at Hong Kong with three British Cruisers on what was intended to be a flag-flying mission for British Government workers and their families, but the Boxer Rebellion had just begun and he is asked to take the three ships to assist the Admiral who was attempting to send troops up to Peking to defend the British Legation. In doing so, he is drawn into destroying Chinese forts and assisting in the withdrawal of the Admiral's force.
1914, and Britain and Germany are at War. Giles Courtenay is now Flag-officer to a small British Cruiser Squadron operating in the South Indian Ocean and Atlantic. The Squadron goes in search of German raiders, and then is sent to the Falkland Islands to assist the British Admiral there. After a major British reverse, Courtenay takes his ships to search up the eastern coast of South America for more raiders, and has to play a game of cat and mouse with a German Cruiser that has taken sanctuary in a neutral port and whose Captain shows no sign of wishing to leave....
