It is a peculiar conceit of literary publishing to put the words, "A Novel" after the title of a novel, as if the reader might somehow become confused upon encountering fiction on the pages within.
"What?" the fuddled reader might cry. "This isn't real?" "No, no, dear heart," says the literary publishing house, in the kind of tone one reserves for small children and the demented. "This is A Novel."
A NOVEL: A Novel is a novel written by a novelist about a novelist who has written a novel. It contains two novels: 1) the aforementioned novel about the novelist and 2) the novel that the novelist manages to get published during the course of aforementioned novel about writing novels. It is, to this novelist's knowledge, the only novel in the history of novel writing to be named "A Novel," which makes it, well, novel.
And not at all confusing.
Genre: Science Fiction
