A big collection of 24 short stories from an author/editor who became a publisher and did more for modern science fiction than is generally acknowledged. The authors he published at Ace represent a veritable 'Who's who' of modern SF: Ursula K Le Guin, Philip K Dick, Harlan Ellison, Leigh Bracket, Edmond Hamilton, Henry Kuttner, John Brunner, Robert Silvererg and space opera king E C Tubb (whose contract with DAW was, alas, cancelled when Don Wollheim's heirs took over, thus depriving his loyal readers of the joy of reading the final chapter in Dumarest's odyssey - his return to Terra).
This collection gives a clear indication of Don Wollheim's considerable talent as a writer. One wonders what he would have achieved had he continued to write.
Genre: Science Fiction
