Grigg: When a black market swindler with a curse on his family name learns that with magic back in the world, he must steal three hearts, or die, he teams up with an unlikely ally and pulls off the heist of a millennium.

Adelina: When a cursed guardian of an ancient magic learns that the evil mage that cursed her is about to be released into the world, she must earn the trust of a cheat to steal the source of the mage’s remnant power and kill her.

If he loves her, she’ll die.

If she loves him, he’ll die.

But only thieves in love can pull off the heist of a millennium.

And if he fails? You guessed it: more death.

Magic has come back into the world, which is good news for Grigglor. After over six hundred years of heirs inheriting the curse on the family name, Grigglor is the first of his line with the chance to lift the curse for good. Of course, it’s also bad news, as the return of magic also brought back the full weight of the curse’s effects.

Grigg has only survived this long by a con and a smile. Loopholes to magic were a dangerous game, but he’d never been good at coloring inside the lines. The curse dictated that he’d never earn success, but stealing other people’s success was nearly as good. Until now.

Adelina was alone, but she was not an orphan. Orphans were helpless. Orphans were weak. And considering she’d grown up swinging from jungle tree branches or shooting bow and arrow backwards from a galloping horse, weak wasn’t how she’d describe herself. The only hitch in her independence came from the curse a mage had chucked on her before the woman kicked the bucket.

Men who loved her died.

And the knowledge she’d been appointed guardian over had placed a target on her back.

So when rumor has it the mage responsible for her suffering is imprisoned rather than dead, and that someone plans to set her free, she’ll do anything to make sure the old crone stays dead instead—and takes her curses with her.
