Live in Harmony
(2021)(The seventh book in the Dumont Island Boarding House Romance series)
A novel by Everlee Whitman
Sometimes life can eclipse all your dreams, and when that happens, you owe it to yourself to try with everything you have to hold on tight and enjoy every moment.
The Dumont Island Boarding House is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is only accessible by car ferry. Most roads on the island are gravel, though the main road that travels down the middle of the island is paved. There are conveniences such as a general store, post office, souvenir shops, café, and a post office on the island, as well as a few cottages spaced along the amazing coastline. The boarding house sits on the far side of the island, with limited resources including electricity supplied only by generator for a brief time during the early evening hours, with gasoline lanterns used at night. Everyone knows each other on the island and they all like to take care of each other as a community of neighbors.
Rolff has been harboring deep resentments toward his father for many years. Losing his mother was just the tip of the iceberg for him. His anger, the resentment from his family, and his poor decisions have only added to his deep seeded turmoil. Rolff hasn’t held a steady relationship his entire life, mostly because of the anger simmering deep inside. After he left Dumont Island this last time, though, something broke inside of him. Now, seeing pictures of his father’s recent nuptials online, he has made the hard decision, this Christmas, to travel back to the island and to ask for forgiveness. He hopes to learn to live in harmony with his father and his new extended family.
Rose grew up the hard way and thought the big bad world outside of Dumont Island was a better option for her. Unfortunately, she didn’t make the best decisions about friendships and lived a life she was not proud of. Rose’s mental stability was accomplished through the peace of island life and her reconnection with her sister and children. Will her sister and children welcome her home after everything she has put them through?
Christmas is a time of family, frivolity, and community on Dumont Island. This year though, not only will the community celebrate another amazing year, but two new people may bring the greatest gift of all this Christmas – peace and harmony.
