Stanton Holmes wants the peace and quiet of ranch life.
Buford Briggs just wants him dead.
The two men have been at odds with each other since Briggs showed up in Tightwater, Texas a month earlier. He’s buying up land as cheap as he can get it and sending ranchers on their way. All they need is a little nudge with the barrel of his gun. When Stanton refuses to sell, Briggs gets angry. When he talks other ranchers out of selling too, Briggs decides it’s time for Stanton to go.
But shooting Stanton isn’t as simple as it sounds. Even with the fifty men Briggs has working for him.
Louella Goodwin is a pawn in Buford’s evil game, and she’s willing to play along if it earns her the freedom she’s longing for. But things get complicated when Louella’s emotions get tangled up in Buford’s scheme.
