Our reader, Donada Peters, writes: "Henry Williamson was a conservationist ahead of his time and one of the leading nature writers of this century, so we should expect this early collection of hunting stories to contain some surprises--and they do!"
In a good number of these stories the quarry, through cunning and courage, gets clean away and moreover exacts a satisfying revenge on the hunters--animal or human. Williamson deals equally with the two-and four-footed protaganists of his tales. He "...breaks down the barriers between ourselves and animals, and makes us experience their lives with an extraordinary and touching lucidity."
