(The third book in the Detective Frank Miller Yorkshire Mystery series)
A novel by

AN UNPUTDOWNABLE POLICE PROCEDURAL SET IN THE ATMOSPHERIC YORKSHIRE TOWN OF WHITBY.

Detective Frank Miller is enjoying a warm summer stroll on the Whitby moors when receives the news: A man has been bludgeoned to death in his hotel room.

Keith Hill and his family arrive in Whitby for their annual summer holiday. They take a room in an old manor house, where Keith discovers the letters of an obscure Victorian novelist.

Eager to know how much the letters are worth, Keith lists them on eBay. And is delighted when he receives a prompt bid.

The next day, Keith is found with his skull bashed in.

Detective Miller and his sergeant are sent to investigate. Their only lead is the bidder from eBay. But their attempts to contact him are halted by a shocking discovery: The bidder is dead.
And his death has been ruled a homicide.

Searching for clues, Miller contacts local researcher Dr Alice Laine, who informs him that the letters are virtually worthless.

So why would anyone kill for them?

This utterly thrilling mystery is perfect for fans of L.J. Ross, Roger Silverwood, J R Ellis, J M Dalgliesh, or Ann Cleeves.

THE DETECTIVE
Detective Inspector Frank Miller has a reputation as the youngest Chief in the force’s history. He eschewed the Graduate Training Scheme in favour of working his way up from the bottom – and this status can make him a little officious. His features are round, his hair – flopping despondently on his shoulders – dirty blonde, and his eyes bright blue.

THE SETTING
The small coastal town of Whitby is split in two by the River Esk, which runs from the North Yorkshire Moors into the town’s harbour, where it joins the North Sea. This natural divide has created two sides to town, linked by a swing bridge. The new side is largely Victorian, glowing with visitor attractions. The old side is home to the cobbled alleyways and dark fog banks that give the town its ancient charm. There, at the top of the 199 steps, are the foreboding Abbey ruins – their ghostly outline hanging above the town.
