The adults around these orphan ''kids'' are drawn into a widening circle of counterfeit money, secret Senate files, Atlantic City gambling casinos and Secret Service tracking. Drew recruits his ex-wife, Huysman's widow and a group of young people who had previously escaped from Huysman's experiment to set a trap for Dohemy, who is hoping for big money through governmental grants to continue the project. There is no tidy ending for the rescuers or the rescued.
