Asha’s eyes were wide and frozen in place. “Wha, who’s Mr. Brown?”
“Prolly the biggest boss in the city,” Boom informed her. “He got hundreds of niggas working under him. He into everything from gun running to prostitutes and dope. If it was anybody else, I would step in and try to cool this shit down. But Mr. Brown is on a whole ‘nother level. That nigga like John Gotti. Don’t nobody fuck with that man. Yo cousin stupid for getting involved with anybody that got something to do with him.”
Asha’s mouth went dry. Next to her sister, Tristan was her closest relative.
“Wha–” She cleared her throat. “What can we do about it?”
“Tell him to pay what he owe,” Boom advised her. “That’s it.” His eyes were stern when he said, “Don’t get involved with this shit, Asha. Don’t get nowhere near it. I know since you been down with this murder game, you think a bullet can solve any problem. But Mr. Brown ain’t the one to fuck with. He got too many killers on his payroll. He the most dangerous man I know.”
Asha was really spooked now. She thought Boom was the most dangerous man in the world. To hear him speak of another man with that level of reverence spoke volumes.
“Okay,” she said. “I won’t get involved. I’ll talk to my cousin, tell him to pay what he owe.”
“If you gotta give him that money,” he said, referring to the five thousand he just gave her, “do it. It’s better to pay his debt than go to his funeral.”
Asha nodded. Her heart was racing. “Okay, Boom. Thanks for letting me know.”
He gave her another hard look before pushing off the bed. He hefted the duffle bag and headed for the door. “A’ight. I’m out. I’ll holler at you later.”
