When O'Hara rides into the town of Taos he is dusty, hungry and thirsty. But just as he gets out of the saddle to take care of these details, ,the embittered Pueblo Indians rise up, prepared to massacre everyone in sight. So O'Hara leaves Taos - unwashed, unfed and thirsty, but alive. At the place called Arroyo Hondo, O'Hara finds food, drink, respite from the hell of Taos, and the Beautiful Conchita. But it doesn't last. The Pueblo attack Arroyo Hondo too, and now there is a lot more at stake for O'Hara than just his life.
