As an Underling, Catriona is required to assist her Royal charge in winning the hand of the prince. That means competing with several other royal possibilities and their maids. The winner gets her choice of jobs in the kingdom. If she loses, her stepmother will banish her.
Never mind that the prince kissed Catriona or that she’s secretly spending lots of time with him. She isn’t of royal blood and therefore doesn���t qualify as a candidate. She knows her place, even if the prince doesn’t.
And then there’s something going on with the Nyght students. One of them is a shifter and he tells Catriona that all is not as it seems at the Academy. Not only that but her fairy godmother believes Catriona has a magical destiny that has nothing to do with falling in love with the prince.
