When a boy brave sees his village raided and burned, his mother and other taken captive and abducted by the Iroquois enemy, he gathers a band of other young braves who must take action, as their father's are away for treaty talks at Ft. Dearborn. Animiki is his father's son, and he uses wisdom at every turn to overcome every obstacle. He must become a man fast, and he must be a leader without fail. His beloved girlfriend, Windflower, his mother, and many Potawatomie children will become slaves to the enemy if he should fail. He utilizes the teachings of his father and uncle, and the wisdom of his grandfather, as well as the customs of his village to succeed. He also uses brain over brawn. This is a true coming of age story set in the early 1800s during the time of the Black Hawk War along the Fox River Valley and early Chicago.
