A Beggar’s Thread
England 978 AD. The united England envisaged by King Alfred and established by Ethelstan is a fragile place. The kingdom reverted to Wessex and Mercia, but reunited under King Edgar (The Peaceful), but the Kingship is fragile now Edgar has died, and he leaves no clear heir, and three wives whose legitimacy of being married to a king is doubtful. Saint Dunstan has reformed the church along Benedictine principles, asserting zealous piety into a corrupt institution. Who is the true successor to Edgar? Will Dunstan get his way and strengthen the link between Church and State, or will two surviving queens get their way?
But a mysterious beggar can disrupt all the machinations of the powerful forces, and change history. But who is he?
