I never stop until I get what I want…

Despite my father telling me repeatedly as a child that I’m privileged, I’ve had to work hard for everything in my life. Although I know I’ll never earn his respect or approval, it’s made me ambitious and driven, which is why I’ve put myself forward for director of the maritime archaeology company where I work, despite being younger than all the other applicants. It also means that when I set my sights on a woman I want, I’m determined to have her.

An archaeologist at the National Museum in Wellington, Zoe Moon is on the hunt for an artifact she can display for their Valentine’s Day exhibition. She’s quirky, sexy, smart, and a complete brat who drives me insane with her flirty behavior. Since she broke up with her boyfriend a month ago, I’ve asked her out precisely fifteen times, to which she has always replied no. But now I have an idea for how to get my hands on her.

I’m convinced I’ve found the wreck of the famous ship HMS Relentless – a British Royal Navy research vessel that sank off the coast of the Bay of Islands in the nineteenth century. The letter that suggests the location of the ship also states that the captain had bought a necklace with a rare opal for his wife, which must have gone down with the ship. I ask Zoe if she’d like to go diving with me to see if we can find it for her exhibition.

The project ends with us being stranded overnight on one of the many islands in the Bay, where our simmering chemistry finally explodes in a shower of white-hot sparks. As terrific as it is, I want more, but then Zoe reveals why she’s intent on remaining a career woman, and states that neither marriage nor babies lie in her future.

The ship isn’t the only thing that’s relentless, though, and I never stop until I get what I want
