Exhausted in Ohio
(2024)(The fifth book in the Midlife Crisis Mystery series)
A novel by Diana Xarissa
I thought a spa in Ohio would be the perfect place to get some rest. After four vacations, each of which involved a murder investigation, I was exhausted.
I’m Holly Parker, and finding dead bodies is not something I’d been expecting when I’d decided to tackle my bucket list. It all sounded so simple on paper visit all fifty states. Fun, right? Murder investigations aren’t fun, but I’d still managed to enjoy each of my trips away from home.
This month was going to be something different, though. Instead of going to see sights or tour museums, I was going to a spa where I could get massages and be wrapped and slathered in creams and lotions and not have to think about anything unpleasant. That was the plan, anyway.
Lunch was the first thing on my schedule after I’d arrived. I shared a table with three other women, and we enjoyed talking a bit about ourselves while we ate. As the day went on, I had a chance to get to know them all a bit better. It was obvious, even on such a short acquaintance, that Millie Woods was deeply unhappy. That didn’t prepare me for being told the next morning that she’d taken her own life.
The police seem convinced of what happened, but the two women at the spa who knew Millie best don’t agree. When they start poking their noses into the investigation, I find myself being dragged along, like it or not. For what it’s worth, I don’t like it, but I’m willing to take part because I’d rather do that than see Millie’s killer get away with it.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
