The Summer of My Growing UP....The year I turned fourteen I thought I'd have the worst summer vacation ever. My friends were all going away to exciting places where they would have fun and meet good-looking boys. But what did I have to look forward to? A long, not summer, sitting on my front porch swing. Elizabeth, I said to myself morosely, this is going to be the dullest summer of your life. If Id only known then the kind of excitement and horror I would soon be experiencing, I would gladly have spent the next ten years being bored out of my mind. I would have given anything if only I could have prevented that final terrible night from happening.
