Victorian London, 1888

After arriving in Whitechapel from the North of England, James begins his investigations into the evils that his editor promised lie at the heart of the East End. But soon after his arrival, Hamblin is arrested on suspicion of the murder of a prostitute. The murders of Jack the Ripper have begun…

As the bodies of slaughtered prostitutes mount up, Hamblin finds a friend in bare knuckle fighter William Venables who offers his services as a bodyguard and guide to the evils of the East End. Venables tells Hamblin about Ilford Varley, a fugitive accused of the murder of his wife and child, and begs the journalist to help prove his innocence. But as they begin their dangerous investigation into the murders of Varley’s family, they soon realise that the Ripper’s killing spree and their case are connected.

James travels into the seedy depths of London to help his friends discover the truth, hiding away from the watchful eyes of the mysterious Longshank’s club and finding himself drawn deeper and deeper into the temptations at the centre of London’s dark heart. They must find the killers of Varley’s family and the prostitutes before the killers find them…
