The Napoleonic Wars are at their height. In the fortress-city of Epineio on the Adriatic coast, a small force of British soldiers and sailors prepares to hold out against an expected French assault. Their work is further complicated when the ruler��s eight year-old son disappears, unsettling the locals. The task of finding the boy falls to a young ship’s clerk, whose modest store of experience is about to increase.
