A noise in the hall made them both turn. When she saw Nick stridingtoward them, she felt her cheeks redden. At least Daniel had stoppedkissing her before they were discovered in a compromising position.
"I was just looking for you," Nick said.
"For me?" she asked.
"Well, you and Daniel."
She gave the chief investigator a triumphant look. "He wants my help."
When Daniel made a dismissive sound, Nick ignored him.
"I was getting ready to go over the records of all the guys working at the workshop. And I need a little help. Somebody has been sabotaging theoperation. We're in an isolated location. People can't just wander inhere."
That was Daniel's cue to focus on Amelia. "Except you."
"Don't start that line of reasoning again."
Before Daniel could send her back to her room, Nick put a hand on hisshoulder. "I was thinking that maybe she's supposed to be here."
She smirked at Daniel. He scowled back at her.
"Let's see what we can figure out together," Nick said, emphasizing the last word.
Daniel didn't look happy, but apparently he wasn't going to keep arguing with the boss.
"Where are we going?" Amelia asked.
"My office."
In the next moment, Daniel reverted back to his one-track attitude."You're taking her there?" he asked sounding like Nick was going toinitiate her into the workings of a secret cult.
"I think it's time."
"This is on you," Daniel said.
"That's right."
