As their biggest fundraiser of the year, members of the Friends of the Library host a Christmas cookie sale that supports a variety of library programs. In the recent past, the bakers pre-sold bags of homemade cookies to be picked up in early December. When the group decides to explore previous versions of the event, the Cookie Buffet joins the discussion. The volunteers vote to return to the in-person sale of cookies on the same day as other popular local events. When one prominent member doesn’t arrive as planned, people start asking questions.
Rebecca investigates where the missing baker is and comes upon a macabre scene decorating her kitchen floor. Working with Chief Towne, she questions friends and relatives of the victim, trying to get a better picture of the secret life she was living.
