Against the electrifying 14th Century of church history, when John Wycliffe translated the Latin Bible into English, making it possible for common folk to read God's Word for themselves, Catherine de Graham, a ward of Scotland's Invermark Castle, secretly works with castle priest Father Thomas to produce handwritten copies of the Bible in clandestine defiance of the Holy Church bulls. They both know their actions could cost everyone at the castle everything--including their lives. Her own personal relationship with Christ blossoms and influences others, even as her heart is burdened for her lifelong friend, Sir James de Lindsay, Sir David's wayward son. Having mysteriously disappeared three years ago, thus forfeiting his inheritance, James suddenly turns up, a tortured soul. As always, he is drawn to Catherine, but he feels unworthy of her because of his actions during his absence--actions he cannot explain even to himself. Searching desperately for peace, he tries to unravel reasons for his desappearance. Catherine and his youngest brother Robby try to help, but secrets seem to always be hidden inside of secrets. And this on the eve of yet another bloody border war with England. A forbidden Bible, an unexplained disappearance, a search for peace, a love destined to be, yet forbidden, and a heartbreaking betrayal are woven together in this story of the triumph of God's Word over the human heart as the characters put their faith in the powerful Armor of God.
